What Boudoir Lingerie to Wear So You Look Amazing - Crown and Mirror

When it comes to boudoir photography, the wardrobe is everything.

What boudoir lingerie you wear allows you to show your own personal style, accentuate your favorite parts of your body, and get into character or explore another side of yourself. However, choosing your outfits can be a little overwhelming!

Compiling your boudoir wardrobe should be thrilling and not a chore. Fortunately, we’ve compiled some suggestions for possible outfits to bring to your session to help you feel sexy and gorgeous. Also, at the bottom of this page, you can get our Boudoir Lingerie Guide PDF. This is a gift to help you plan the perfect outfits for your session (or build your lingerie collection)

Bodysuits

A bodysuit is a great choice! They look amazing on almost every body type, and they come in a variety of styles and materials. You can find Bodysuits in almost any style whether you love elegant and lacey or something more daring and bold. Go with a high-cut bodysuit to make your legs appear longer or a plunging neckline to highlight your chest.

Teddies, slip-ons, and shapewear are similar but have their differences!

A teddy generally covers the torso and cloth in one garment. It is almost like a one-piece swimsuit, or like a bodysuit but definitely spicier! The reason this is one of our favorite styles of boudoir lingerie is that it flatters so many women! Teddies are often sheer which is perfect for giving a peek of the body without showing off everything.

Shapewear is should be tight-fitting to control and shape the figure. There are two main types, one type is functional but usually doesn’t look too appealing. The second type is designed by lingerie companies and is not only functional but very appealing to the eye!

Originally, slips were created to be worn beneath a dress or skirt. It would help your outfit hang smoothly and prevent anything from being see-through. Now, Slips have become much sexier, body-hugging, and make gorgeous boudoir outfits! They can be the same material of shapewear, or sheer, lace, and silk. The key to slips is paying attention to the length! Right under or juuuust above the tush is a great length for these because the shorter they are the longer a woman’s legs will look.

Bra & panty sets

These sets are often the first choice for many women, especially because they’re often already in your wardrobe and an item that we are most familiar with.

Push-up bras are great if you feel you need a little boost! However, if you’re smaller chested, you may want to avoid these bras because they can create an unflattering gap. The design of a push-up bra can do wonders for the chest but can also be unflattering if they shorten your torso. Make sure to try them on and see how it works for your body and not just your breasts!

Bras with underwires are an excellent choice for any size and shape and can offer a little extra support. And if you’re looking for something to add more of a sexy touch, consider a lace or sheer bra.

Panties come in almost any cut and style imaginable. Whether you’re looking for boy shorts, thongs, or something a little lacy, you can find whatever style makes you feel beautiful.

Corsets & bustiers

Corsets and bustiers are often for ladies who want to wear something and embrace their boudoir session to the fullest! These pieces are often confused with each other but are actually very different. Corsets are designed to give your waist more definition, while bustiers are focused more on lifting and defining your breasts. Bustiers are often a little shorter, while corsets can add shape but can also make you look smaller or more flat-chested.

Non-lingerie

Boudoir is more than just lingerie. It’s important that you feel comfortable and confident and let your personality shine through in your session. Choosing outfits in addition to lingerie can give you a chance to show off who you are and can include anything from your favorite band tee or leather jacket to your coziest pjs.

Think about what you’re most comfortable in. A cozy sweater? An off-the-shoulder T-shirt? Your partner’s favorite button up? Don’t be afraid to choose something more personal. Comfy is sexy.

Accessories

The best thing about accessories is that they can add an extra touch of creativity and uniqueness to your session. Small details can add a little extra personal touch to your shoot.

Choose a bold statement necklace or sparkly diamond earrings. Even some high heels or small pieces of jewelry can help make your images pop.

Hats are another favorite of mine that when done right, add a certain sexy flair that couldn’t be gotten without them!

I once had a client who incorporated her partner’s military jacket as a way to feel close to them while they were deployed. It was amazing to capture the way she lit up when she put it on! Not only did she feel sexy, beautiful, and strong while wearing it but it made an awesome gift for him while he was away at sea.

I had another client bring her reading glasses. Specifically because she wanted to take an opportunity to get at least one picture of herself in them where she could feel sexy and beautiful (and we got plenty!).

Another client of mine brought her favorite perfume and lipstick because her favorite part of her day was when she had time to herself in the morning to get ready and go through her own morning ritual before she’d have to wake the kids up get them ready for school and conquer her day with all hectic things involved with being a mom!

If you’re looking to add a little sexiness, garter belts and stockings are a sultry touch. Garter belts sit at your waistline and have adjustable straps that hang down to your legs to attach to stockings. But even without stockings, this look is stunning.

Avoid bright colors

A bright colored bra and panty set may seem fun, but fluorescent or overly bright colors often don’t show up well in photos. Stick with darker, more sultry colors, like deep blues and purples, and always consider the classic black. And make sure to keep your nail color subtle—bright nails can be distracting and will become the focus of the photos and take attention away from your stellar body.
